We do still have some kind of neutral in our language ('ça'), but yeah, we had a lot of fun assigning genders to the most neutral objects (a table being a "she" actually, and no, I don't know why, either... ;))
But hey! Germans do it too! And their things' genders are different from ours (like 'Die Katze' as opposed to 'Le chat', if I may use a completely random example 0:))
